Sony Xperia Z Ultra coming to Three, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u
Oh and Dialaphone.
Sony’s freshly announced Xperia Z Ultra will be available on Three when it hits shop shelves this Q3, the network has confirmed.
Three announced via a blog post that the Z Ultra (or ZU for short) will be ‘coming soon’ to its ‘UltraFast’ network - becoming the first and only UK network to confirm plans to range the handset since its official unveiling yesterday.
Alas, Three didn’t provide any specifics as to when the when the Z Ultra will be actually available, nor any details on pricing. Hopefully these will be revealed closer to launch, along with the option to pre-order the device on the carrier’s popular pay-monthly tariffs.
Following on Three’s footsteps, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and Dialaphone have also put up ‘Coming Soon’ pages for the Z Ultra, with Carphone expecting to have stock in September.
Billed as the world’s largest and slimmest full HD smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra is home to a 6.4-inch ‘Triluminous’ display with Sony’s latest ‘X-Reality’ technology that fixes and replaces broken pixels in videos in real-time and can register inputs from a stylus or even a pencil or pen, making it a bona fide contender to the Samsung Galaxy Note.
Powered by Qualcomm’s all-new Snapdragon 800 chipset with four 2.2GHz cores and 4G LTE support, the Z Ultra is equally massive in brawn and offers ‘one-touch’ NFC connectivity with compatible accessories and devices, such as speakers and televisions.
Also on board the device is an eight-megapixel rear-mounted featuring an Exmor RS sensor for enhanced low-light photography. This is teamed with a two-megapixel front-cam for HD video calls.
Better still, just like its predecessor, the Xperia Z, the Z Ultra is also certified water and dust resistant (rated IP55 and IP58) and even packs a waterproof headset jack for extra protection.
Commenting on the Z Ultra’s impressive credentials, Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at uSwitch.com, said: “Delivering the sizable 'phablet' form factor favoured by Samsung, the 6.4-inch screen of the Z Ultra certainly caters to the 'all-in-one' desires of those looking for a powerful and complete tablet experience, without compromising on the traditional calls and messaging that a smartphone provides.
“The Z Ultra's premium looks and slick design could win over quite a few consumers, but the allimportant network price points will dictate whether Sony's comeback can continue unabated.”
Stay tuned as we bring you more Xperia Z Ultra news and announcements in the coming weeks.
