LG G Flex set for international release

lg g flex LG’s much-vaunted G Flex, the company’s first phone to pack a flexible display, is set to make its international debut next month. The curved-screen wonder has been available in the company’s native South Korea since early November.
A special media event, detailing plans for the device’s global rollout, will be held on December 3rd in Hong Kong. Orange's French division has already said it’ll be selling the G Flex across the pond ahead of Christmas.

LG G Flex curved phone official

lg g flex LG has pulled the wrappers off the new G Flex curved phone in its home territory of South Korea. The first LG handset with a flexible display, it’s going head-to-head with key rival Samsung’s recently revealed Galaxy Round.
Rather than curving from left to right like Sammy’s effort, the G Flex uses a flexible display which curves from top to bottom. The idea is that the handset sits more comfortably when taking calls.
Packing a whacking 6-inch screen, the G Flex only manages to squeeze in 720p resolution, a step down from the 1080p devices that are dominating the top-end of the smartphone sector.

LG G Flex: Why curved phones will never catch on

curved phone generic
LG’s new G Flex phone is the second curved phone released in the past month. The Korean company’s big-time rival Samsung released its Galaxy Round device to much fanfare in its home territory a few weeks ago.
It means flexible screens, so often touted as ‘the next big thing’ at tech trade shows, are finally getting something approaching mainstream recognition.
There are key differences between the two devices. LG’s phone curves from top to bottom, meaning it supposedly sits more comfortably on the face when taking calls.
Sammy’s effort curves from side to side, offering neat features which allow it to be pushed up to notifications without turning it on.
LG’s already giving it the big talk about the G Flex. It says it’s the first ‘real’ curved phone (it isn’t).
Its clever ‘self-healing’ rear cover is certainly a pointer to a time when minor scratches disappear after a few minutes.

LG G Pro Lite gets official

LG G Pro Lite official LG has given the official nod to the recently leaked G Pro Lite device. The super-sized phablet packs in average-sounding specs, pitting it against the slightly cheaper Samsung Galaxy Mega, as opposed to its Korean rival’s new, high-end Galaxy Note 3.
The Android 4.1.2-powered phone's key feature is the 5.5-inch display. That’s more than ample for watching movies on the move, although the 960x540 resolution doesn’t exactly excite. Sure, things will look sharp, but they’ll be well short of the HD standard we’ve come to expect.
There’s also an 8-megapixel snapper round the back, while under the bonnet there's 1GB of RAM and a 1GHz dual-core processor to keep things ticking along. That’s pretty sluggish by today’s standards, but should at least ensure the G Pro Lite is cheap.

LG G2 gets official

LG has finally revealed its new flagship G2 smartphone. The device was launched at a special event in New York, with the Korean giant claiming its latest effort ushers in ‘a new perspective in smartphone design’.
That’s a rather bold statement, but the G2 is certainly a little different from its key Android rivals, including Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and HTC’s One.

For a start, the volume and power controls are on the back of the device, beneath the phone’s camera. By shifting those buttons, LG says the G2 offers a better screen experience than its competitors.
The 5.2-inch Full HD display stretches across the entire device, with the bezel measuring just 0.1mm. As well as that unique design, LG has also managed to cram in Graphic RAM tech, which it says drops the screen’s energy use by 26%, pushing up battery life by around 10%.
The handset is also the first to pack in 24 bit/192Hz Hi-Fi, making it a must for hardcore audiophiles too.
The G2 also includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
Three has confirmed that it will be stocking the LG G2 ‘soon’.

LG Optimus 4X HD, Vu and 3D Max announced at Mobile World Congress

lg optimus 4x hd
LG has made a sizable splash at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), showcasing three new major additions to its Optimus line of smartphones.
The South Korean electronics maker took full advantage of rival Samsung’s absence from the high-profile event by announcing its first ever quad core smartphone, the Optimus 4X HD, the supersized Optimus Vu and a sequel to the Optimus 3D.
Billed as sporting the world’s only 4-Plus-1 quad core processor by Nvidia, the 4X packs a fifth ‘battery-saver’ core that handles less resource hungry tasks and is a bona fide media powerhouse thanks to a 12-core graphics processing unit.
This is augmented by a capacious 4.7-inch IPS display with 720p HD resolution, an eight-megapixel camera with full HD recording and 16GB of internal storage. And in news that will please more than a few, Android Ice Cream Sandwich is installed out of the box. Impressively, all of this is rolled into a slick 8.9mm thick shell that LG describes as a ‘prism-edged-design’.
Moving on and we have the Optimus Vu. This is home to a five-inch backlit LCD screen with a 1024x768 resolution, 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM, an eight-megapixel camera with LED flash and 32GB of on board memory. There’s NFC support, too, for making contactless payments.
Although it launches with Android Gingerbread, LG has promised that an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich is definitely in the pipeline.
Lastly, we come to the Optimus 3D Max. Like its predecessor, the Optimus 3D, this boasts a glasses-free 3D display, measuring 4.3 inches, a five-megapixel camera with 3D-snapping/recording capabilities and 8GB of internal memory.
Keeping things ticking over is 1.2GHz dual core processor. Plus there’s support for DLNA support with 3D streaming and NFC to cap things off.
Alas, Android Gingerbread is present here, too. However, Ice Cream Sandwich will be rolled out after launch.
No exact release or pricing details have been confirmed yet, but we should get those soon once MWC comes to an end. So stay tuned.

LG Optimus G2 leaked: is this the Google Nexus 5 too?

LG’s forthcoming Optimus G2 has been detailed in a massive leak. The new Android device, which will be LG’s flagship smartphone for 2013, is laden with top end features.
As well as a 13-megapixel snapper round the back, there’s 2GB of RAM and a lightning-fast Snapdragon 800 processor. The latest Android software is also on board.

The design has been given a Nexus 4-style tweak compared to 2012’s Optimus G, with a more rounded frame in evidence.
What’s more, the screen will come in at a more than ample 5.2-inches, supporting 1080p HD video to boot.
Interestingly, one rumour-monger claims that this device will be the basis for Google’s oft-talked about Nexus 5.
That would make some sense seeing as Google has worked with LG closely in the last year.
However, earlier this summer LG execs dismissed suggestions that it was working on a follow-up to the wallet friendly Nexus 4.
