HP heading back into smartphones

HP Pre 3 A senior HP exec has suggested that the PC-maker could be making an unlikely return to the smartphone world.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Yam Su Sin claimed the company would be “silly” not to have another go at cracking the handset business.
Yam, HP’s Director of Consumer PCs and Tablets across Asia-Pacific, made it quite clear where HP’s plans lay.
“It would be silly if we say no,” he said when asked if HP would make another mobile device. “HP has to be in the game."
Interestingly, Yam went on to say that any device couldn’t simply ape current trends.
"Being late you have to create a different set of propositions. There are still things that can be done. It's not late.

“When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience."
You could argue that HP offered a "differentiated experience" with its set of webOS-packing device two years ago.
They failed to get off of the ground, despite the expensive acquisition of Palm and an aggressive marketing campaign.
The question is, can HP really offer something different that consumers will buy in their droves?
The chances are it’ll struggle to be seen in such a hugely crowded space.
