HTC Zara: new mid-range smartphone leaked

HTC is working on a new plastic handset, dubbed the Zara, with a release date pegged for late 2013.
The device was leaked by evleaks, which is developing a solid-gold reputation for getting the inside line on new mobiles.

With HTC unleashing aluminium handsets earlier this year, with the One and One Mini leading the line, a plastic device makes sense in light of the impending release of Apple’s iPhone 5C.
The Zara is said to pack a 4.5-inch qHD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus processor and 1GB of RAM.
Beats Audio and an ample eight-megapixel camera complete the package. A Q4 release date is expected.

Blue HTC One seen in the wild

Blue HTC One leak
HTC is priming an amped-up phablet edition of its flagship One smartphone. But while we wait for the so-called One Max, another version of the One is also said to be edging closer to launch.
A blue-coloured HTC One has been spotted in the wild and papped by a worker at one of the Taiwanese giant’s factories. The device was seen earlier this month in a leaked press shot.
While the colour is different, there’s little to suggest the internals of the device will not be the same. That means the latest version of Android, layered with HTC Sense and the company’s ace Ultra Pixel camera round the back.

Live news Android Ice Cream Sandwich rollout is go for HTC Evo 3D

HTC has begun rolling out Android 4.0, A.K.A Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for the HTC Evo 3D, giving the year-old smartphone a fresh lease of life.
The phone-manufacturer is making the update, which brings some smart new features to the handset, available initially to owners in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

As it stands, however, ICS is only up for grabs if you've got an unlocked Evo 3D. Owners of network-branded models will have to wait until it passes through testing with individual carriers. And as experience tells us, that could take months.
Features it adds to the handset aren’t yet confirmed. But potential additions take in the rather specious Face Unlock security feature that uses the front-facing camera to scan would-be users’ faces and will only become unlocked for the owner. Or at least, that's the theory.
Also likely to make the transition to the Evo 3D are a range of user interface tweaks and enhanced multi-tasking.

HTC One Mini leaked

HTC One Mini purported leaked photo (unofficial) The much-mooted HTC One Mini, gossiped about online for months, has finally made an appearance.
The pared-down device has starred in its own set of spy shots, which show the metal-clad handset stacked up against its more capacious older sibling.
Rocking a 4.3-inch HD Ready display, the HTC One Mini packs the same Ultra Pixel peeper as the HTC One, making it a serious camera contender. There’s also a plentiful 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space.
The handset is rumoured to pack a dual-core processor under the hood, which should ensure this thing ticks along at a decent speed too.
Word is the HTC One Mini will be hitting shelves some time in August. HTC will be desperate to see this device sell by the bucketload, especially if it’s to stave off suitors.

HTC One S: yet another update own-goal from HTC

htc one s
HTC hasn’t always had the strongest track record when it comes to serving-up the latest version of Android on its older phones.
Two years ago, it made a spectacular U-turn when it announced it would be bringing Android Gingerbread to its then year-old Desire handset, just days after it said the phone lacked sufficient memory for the upgrade.
Since then, updates have been sluggish at best. And today we reached yet another point in HTC’s difficult relationship with Android software bumps.
The Taiwanese company says it won’t be bringing the latest 4.2 edition of Google’s OS to its One S device.
On the face of it, that’s shouldn’t be a huge issue. We are, after all, talking about a budget handset here.
But we’re also talking about a phone that was only launched in February 2012.

HTC One S won’t get Android 4.2

htc one s HTC has said it will not be upgrading 2012’s One S handset to Android 4.2. The mid-range device, revealed in February of last year, will instead remain stranded on Android 4.1.
In a statement, the Taiwanese mobile maker said, “We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense.
“We realize [sic] this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized [sic] with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”
The move has been greeted with disbelief among the hardcore Android community, especially as Samsung is currently pushing out Android 4.2 to its two-year-old Galaxy S2.

HTC One red colourway announced, pre-order live on Phones 4U

HTC has deviated from tried and trusted gun-metal grey and black colour options it favours for its flagship phones, with a ‘glamour red’ (their words, not ours) edition of the One.
Available to pre-order now at Phones 4U, which has exclusive rights to sell the red version in the UK, the re-sprayed handset goes on sale officially in mid July. The One will be free from £33 per month on monthly contracts.

HTC's handset is unchanged from the more sober hued models in the design department. And given the acclaim heaped on its unibody aluminium construction, it’s not hard to see why.
And the features are the same too. That means you’ve got the same UltraPixel camera, a 4.7-inch full HD display and a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor.
The One runs Android 4.2 out of the box, with a revamped version of the HTC Sense user interface slathered over the top that apes the more ‘alive’ feel of Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.
Philip Blair, President of EMEA at HTC, said: “We have always been committed to offering consumers the flexibility to share their personalities through their choice of mobile phone, whether through colour, customisation or features.

HTC Desire 200 gets official

HTC has turned to a handset brand synonymous with its glory days of 2011 to revive its flagging fortunes, in the shape of a new low-cost addition to the Desire range.
Dubbed the Desire 200, the as-yet un-priced kit packs a 3.5-inch display with 480x320 resolution, as well as a five-megapixel camera. Perhaps surprisingly for a phone so obviously pitched at the low-end market, Beats by Dre audio technology is on board too.

Other than that, spec-sheet details are scanty. But the product listing on HTC's site does tell us that it’ll be 3G-only and packs a 1GHz processor courtesy of Qualcomm and 4GB of internal storage. This can be boosted by up to 32GB adding a microSD card.

LG Optimus 2 Android 2.3-toting phone showcased

LG has lifted the lid on a new addition to the Optimus-branded range of Android phones.

Elsewhere, it’s home to a 800MHz processor, plus microSD card support to boost the on board storage of 179MB by up to 32GB. A 2GB microSD is included when you buy the handset.
Rounding off the package is the handy Swype touchscreen typing app pre-installed and a 1,500 mAh battery which offers up to five hours talk time on a full charge and the usual array of connectivity options.

Apple iWatch trademark filed in Japan

apple iwatch Apple has applied to trademark the iWatch name in Japan. Cupertino says the product using the title would be a “handheld computer or watch device”, leaving little doubt that it’s at least hoping to produce its own smartwatch.
Tellingly, the application was made on June 3rd, the same date Apple also filed for an iWatch trademark in Russia. News of that attempt broke early last month.
There’s no news yet on what exactly the device will look like, although rumours abound that it’ll pack biometric tech for beefed-up security.
