Amazon and Apple call a truce in app store battle

Apple iPhone App Store Amazon and Apple have brought an end to two years of legal wrangling over the term ‘app store’.
The internecine lawsuit has been abandoned by both parties after talks.
Apple had been suing Amazon after the online retailer launched its own, Android-based ‘appstore’ in 2011.
Steve Jobs argued at the time that the move was a deliberate attempt to trade on the name of Apple’s App Store.
However, it appears Apple has had a change of heart. An Amazon lawyer, Martin Glick, told Reuters that “…this was a decision by Apple to unilaterally abandon the case, and leave Amazon free to use 'appstore’”.
The shift in position comes only weeks after the battle looked likely to rage in court for months to come.
Hopefully this dovish approach now means Apple can bring an end to its never-ending tussle with Samsung. Although, we wouldn’t bet on it.
