Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to drop in four variants?

Keen smartphone industry-watchers will know that Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 phone is now available in a host of different flavours, which are aimed at different demographics.
Among them is the camera-focussed Galaxy S4 Zoom, the eminently pocketable Galaxy S4 Mini, the sporty Galaxy S4 Active and the original Galaxy S4.
Apparently not content with diluting the strength of the Galaxy S brand, today it seems like Samsung could be trying a similar approach with its Galaxy Note phablet brand.
According to Phandroid, which sourced story from a Korean news site, the top-of-the-range Galaxy Note 3 will come with a flexible screen – something that’s been a fixture of the Samsung rumour mill for years – and pack a 13-megapixel camera.
It will also be made from premium materials (think: aluminium and glass) of the sort that made the HTC One X stand out among rival Android devices.
The Android fan site claims that the flexi screen will be fashioned from “unspecified plastic material” and that the flexible display will be able to “absorb more energy from any impacts, preventing cracks or chips from appearing if your smartphone is dropped or bashed.”
The second-tier Note 3 will swap the plastic, bendable screen for a standard glass one and feature a plastic construction, while retaining its high-end stablemate’s 13-megapixel snapper.
Choose either of the low-cost options (both of which feature plastic shells) and you’ll get LCD screens, with the third-tier variant rocking a 13-megapixel camera and the bottom-end model furnished with an eight-megapixel camera. At least one of these is thought to be aimed at adventure sports-fanciers.
All four options will feature a 5.7-inch screen and the same quad-core processor, it’s claimed.
Samsung’s apparent decision to test the waters with a Galaxy Note 3 with superior build quality comes after some tech-press sages criticised the Galaxy S3 for its less-than-solid construction compared with the iPhone and HTC’s One X.
The gadget-maker is expected to unveil the Note, or Note(s), in September at the IFA technology pow-wow in Berlin.
