Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat dropping October 15th?
Google clearing the decks for double-whammy.
Talk doing the rounds among developers at the Google Launchpad event indicates that the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4, aka Kit Kat, will show their faces at a press event in New York next Tuesday.
A double-whammy of announcements is entirely in keeping with Google’s previous form. The search giant typically uses new Nexus devices to showcase freshly baked versions of Android and set standards for manufacturing partners who base their handsets on the OS.
Specs details for the Nexus 5 are surprisingly hard to come by, as it stands. But leaks indicate it could be home to a lush MEMS camera and a larger 4.95-inch screen.
4G support, which was a notable omission from the Nexus 4, is also a dead cert to be present, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor on pixel-pushing duty.
It’s thought that pricing will be directly in line with its predecessor. That means the entry-level 16GB model could sell for £239 - a price that might appeal to the legion of would-be iPhone owners who were put by the ‘budget’ iPhone 5c’s asking price.
