Sourced by handset-leak specialists EV Leaks, the images show a
smartphone with a markedly boxier, squarer shell than earlier Note
handsets, which have stuck close to the curvy, ostensibly
nature-inspired look of its Galaxy S stablemates.
We think it most closely resembles higher-end Sony Xperia Android phones and the angular, sharp-edged look they showcase, and firmly approve of the thin bezel that ought to mean more screen space without expanding the unit size.
However, not everyone is convinced that what we’re looking at really is respresentative of the next Note, with many noting that the handset in the photo most likely features a decoy/dummy exterior.
These stopgap frames are used to throw would-be leakers off the scent, enabling testers to carry them around without being detected by keen-eyed tech fans and bloggers.
Other than aesthetics, it’s noticeable that the kit in the photo features a slot near the foot of the phone that recalls the holding slot for the S-Pen stylus of earlier Note models.
Expected to land in September at the IFA tech expo in Berlin, the Note 3’s feature set is mooted to take in a 6.0” full HD AMOLED display, 4G LTE support, a quad-core processor and a 13-megapixel camera.
